“Christ is Risen!” “Indeed He is Risen!” We are an Easter People and Alleluia is our song! Easter is our annual 50-day celebration of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. Our Easter faith does not deny death, but embraces it as part of living, showing us how to join life and death the way Jesus did in his Paschal Mystery. The first lesson of Easter teaches us that that faith is harder alone than in community.

The first step toward the promise of resurrection occurs when we enter webs of relationships that enrich our small stories with the stories of others. As Easter people let us share our stories and see the wonders of God working in our lives. The joyful compelling message of Easter is that Christ has set us free to live without fear and charged with bringing peace and justice to our world.

Thank you to all who helped us celebrate Holy Week and Triduum --- those who enhanced our prayer by the change of decorations, all our liturgical ministers, especially our choirs and musicians for the extra time needed to prepare for our liturgies, and to all who came to celebrate each day.

Have you heard of “Easter laughter”? “Easter laughter” is said to date back to the early Christian period. This tradition involved churchgoers engaging in playful and humorous activities. In keeping with “Easter laughter”….

A man was coming out of church after Easter services, and the pastor was standing at the door to shake hands. He grabbed the man by the hand and pulled him aside. The pastor said, “You need to join the Army of the Lord!” The man said, “I’m already in the Army of the Lord, Pastor.” The pastor asked,

“Then how come I don’t see you except at Christmas and Easter?” The man whispered, “I’m in the secret service!”
