All things new

The word gospel means “good news” not
“good advice”. The gospels share with us
what God has done, continues to do for
us, and that we are created in his image.
Through the gospels we are invited to remember who
we really are, a new creation.
So what does it mean to be a new creation? “The One
who sat on the throne said, ‘Behold, I make all things
new.” That’s the end of our second reading today. It
leads me to wonder what it means to make something
“new.” The wording might give us a hint. It does not say
“make all new things” but “make all things new.”
That suggests that things are being remade or
renewed rather than destroyed or discarded. So when
this same reading begins with John’s vision of “saw a
new heaven and a new earth,” that doesn’t really
mean that God is going to destroy the Earth and
create a new one from scratch. Rather, this current
Earth is meant to be renewed.
On May 8th , the Holy Spirit guided the cardinals to
choose Cardinal Robert Prevost, as the first American
pope. Through his shepherding the renewal of the
earth continues.
Pope Leo XIV intends to carry forward the progressive
vision of Pope Francis promoting greater inclusivity and
collaboration within the Church. He also wants to frame
discussion on social media, the digital age, and
artificial intelligence using Gospel values. What does it
mean to be disciples in this electronic age? He sees his
role as contributing to a more peaceful future,
beginning his papacy with the greeting & quote; Peace
be with you all.
May Pope Leo XIV lead us in being Christ’s heart of
mercy, voice of hope, and hands of justice. Help him
to fill our minds and hearts with the truth of the
Gospel, the power of the sacraments, and the desire
to build up your holy Church. Christ is Risen! Truly He
is Risen!
