October Month of the Rosary

The month of October brings up some mixed emotions for me. While I love seeing the beauty and majesty of God’s creation in the Fall colors (especially this year), it also lets me know that the winter season will soon be upon us. For me that means hopping into the car in the morning and being able to just start it up and drive off, will soon be replaced by the quick dash (be careful of the ice) out to the car to warm it up before I can leave for work. But also October means (for me) the month of 2 Mary’s. The first is the Blessed Virgin Mary the mother of Jesus. The second is my own beloved Grandmother (my mom’s mother) who lost her battle with cancer in October of 1981. In my heart the two are intrinsically linked. My Grandmother held a deep and passionate devotion to the Blessed Virgin. I could probably count on one hand the number of times that I would see her without her Rosary in hand throughout my life. As kids, if there was ever something that we felt that we needed prayers for, we would call Grandma and she would turn to Mary with her Rosary and pray for us. Maybe her love of the Rosary has instilled in me a great love for the Rosary as well. That is why I am excited (in the early months of my ministry) to invite all of you to pray a Living Rosary on Sunday, October 25th at 7:00 P.M. at Sacred Heart Church. If you have never been to a Living Rosary before, it can be an incredibly spiritual and moving time to reflect on the mysteries of the Rosary. There is also an opportunity to be an active part of the Living Rosary through helping to lead the prayers of the individual beads of the Rosary. If this is something that you would like to help with, you can sign up on our ACC website https://www.oneinchristacc.org/ and follow the “Living Rosary event” button in the top left side of the homepage. Otherwise you can contact me by e-mail. My e-mail address is tjancik@sacredheartsaukrapids.org. Just let me know that you are interested in helping and I will count you in as a part of our “Living Rosary”. Or you can leave me a message at the Sacred Heart parish office and I will contact you back. Whether you want to pray with us as a prayer leader or a participant, I would be elated for you to join us on Sunday, October 25th. May God bless Deacon Terry
