This week we celebrate the 4th of July; America’s Independence Day. So what does it really mean to be really independent? The dictionary says that independence is the state of being free of the control, aid, or support of others. But, can we somehow become too independent?
The scriptures tell us plainly to “Cast all our cares upon Jesus” and to “Pray constantly” and to rely fully on the promises of God. He will provide for all of our needs if we turn it all over to Him and then believe that He will do it. He will! So, In some ways, independence is a good thing, but dependence on our good and generous and loving God is even better!
On a visit to the VA recently, I was able to obtain a wonderful little book entitled “31 Days of Prayer” by Ruth and Warren Myers. The pages contain many words of wisdom regarding the power of prayer and praise. There is a daily scripture and reflection for 31 days so you can use it over and over again for years even. Each devotion is 2 or 3 pages that give us lots of practical hints on how to pray better and how to pray better using scripture and praise of God’s holy name. I recommend this type of devotional for everyone, young or old. Here’s a sample of the prayers that are included:
“Lord I bow humbly before you. You are high and
exalted, and I am so small and so human, so limited by
time and space. You are holy and I fall short of your
glorious ideals. What amazing grace that you grant
me access to you at all times, day and night!”
Have a wonderful and blessed and DEPENDENT summer,
