“Bridges” to Meet Again Many of us experience bridges on a daily basis as we travel from one place to another without ever thinking of them, they are simply part of the landscape. But have you ever had an experience of a very large, long or high bridge being in your path as you travel? Perhaps you have even been hiking and come upon a suspended bridge that you need to cross. Now the feeling may be different; fear, anxiety, apprehension as you approach this bridge.
Those same feelings can be experienced by those who are grieving the loss of a loved one, in particular a spouse. On October 8th the first meeting of a group named “Bridges” met at Xavier Hall after morning Mass. This was a time to meet, greet and share with others who are bridging into a new life without their spouse. For some the loss was recent, for others it has been years. Each story and each person is unique, yet they have so much in common.
Those present discussed and made plans to continue meeting and would like to extend an invitation to others who have lost a spouse. This is what the group discussed regarding “Bridges”:
· They will meet the third Wednesday of each month after the 8:00 am Mass in a corner of the Gathering Place
· Attendance is come as you are able – there is no commitment needed to monthly meetings · The gatherings will remain informal; coffee, friendly conversation and shared prayer · Participants may plan social gatherings as a group in the future
· Some may be interested in activities such as playing cards, seeing a movie, lunch, etc. which individuals would plan on their own
Many in attendance commented on how good it was to be with others who have a common journey in life.
The group will meet again on Wednesday, November 18th .
Let us together pray for those bridging to a new life without their beloved spouse, that they find comfort in the companionship of others and renewed hope and joy in life.
