We are an EASTER People!
April 28, 2019
The Acts of the Apostles is a great read if ever you are wondering what those first days for Christians were like after the Resurrection of Jesus from the dead. The joy gifted to us in the birth of Jesus is in many ways upstaged by his triumphant rising from the dead, for in his rising he overcame death and the power of sin and evil. We need only be like those first Christians, convinced of our salvation through the life, death and Resurrection of Jesus, that we might truly live as an Easter People!
Easter people no longer wonder about or question the authority of Jesus. Easter people are convinced beyond any doubt that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, sent to this earth to save us all from self destruction through sin and death. Easter people are a people of hope, a sure and certain hope, that God’s love and grace saves all his people. Easter people live in love and joy with one another, desiring to please God by their words and actions. Easter people know the presence of Jesus with them in the Holy Spirit. And Easter people in our Catholic Church rejoice in the gift of the “Real Presence” of Jesus Christ in the Bread that feeds us; the Eucharist.
So for seven weeks we will hear unfolding the beginning days of our beloved Catholic Church as many were baptized, healed and blessed by the Apostles, who when strengthened by the Holy Spirit ventured into the unknown world of Christianity, the very Christianity that we are part of nearly 2020 years later. What an awesome gift!
Let us live in the joy of the Resurrection, with the joy of our salvation on our minds and in our hearts in the coming weeks. Too soon, we will return to Ordinary Time in our Church, so let us take in, hold dear, and treasure the seven full weeks of Easter so that others may come to know the joy and blessing of knowing and loving God through Jesus Christ. It is our joy that brings joy to others!
