Happy New Year!
What will this Year of the Lord, 2019 bringfor each of us? I always wonder that as we bid farewell to another year and look forward to what God will provide for us in the coming year. As we look ahead we anticipate planned events, and yet we know that there will be many life events that we had no clue of in advance. Some of those are joy-filled and exciting, some are difficult and painful. What we can be assured of through our shared faith in Jesus Christ is that God will provide and God will be with us each and every day. We will find hope in his presence through beloved family and friends and our faith community. Each year provides us 365 days to share God’s love with one another.
Often at the beginning of a new year people reexamine their lives and look for ways to improve it especially in regard to their health. We commit once again to get more exercise, to eat healthy, to be in touch with old friends and even to learn new things. I would like to invite all members of our community to an opportunity to learn more about something very familiar; the Eucharist.
The Diocese of St. Cloud, through the Office of Worship produced a DVD on the Eucharist that is definitely, in my opinion, worth our time to view. Bishop Kettler approved the gifting of each parish with this production as a way for all Catholics to grow in their understanding of the Tradition, the ritual, the order and the incredible gift that is given to us as we gather to celebrate the Eucharist as one body of Christ. When I used this DVD in our RCIA classes, the “cradle Catholics” in the room commented,
“Why don’t we know these things!? I never knew that!” Here is an opportunity to grow closer to Jesus through a deeper understanding of what we experience in th celebration of the Eucharist!
At all of the Masses next weekend, I will present a portion of “Engaging the Mystery: Catechesis on the Mass”, inviting all to join me immediately following the 10:30 a.m. Mass on four upcoming Sundays in January and February. (See the insert for dates and subjects) If you and or your family – this is great for children as well – are interested, please let me know by calling and
leaving a message. You need not commit to all presentations, but I think you will want to see them. Let me know at 252-1363, ext. 1103 or sign up in the Gathering
Place next weekend after all Masses.
I look forward to being with you and anticipate with joy your learning more about our sacred Eucharistic Celebration!
