Honoring Our Military Veterans
November 5, 2015
Last Thursday I met with a few people who indicated their interest in the Military Advocates of St. Francis Xavier, however only three people of the twelve were present. There may be many reasons for this, but one may be that this group was founded in a time when a number of our parishioners or their family members were deployed because of our country being actively engaged in war. Many organizations that were very active at that time no longer meet and that may be the case for our group as well. However, the parishioners who attended the meeting strongly agreed that it is important to honor our veterans for their service.
Please consider attending this Veteran’s Day gathering for all veterans and their family members:
Veterans Day Program & Reception 1:45-2:45PM
Wednesday, November 11, 2015 St. Francis Xavier School Cafeteria
Guest Speaker: Lieutenant Colonel Scott Harold Southworth
Come let our students meet you and honor you for your service!
Also, in the Gathering Place there is a table prepared where parishioners can let us know of their service to our country. If you are a current member of the Armed Services of the United States or a Veteran, or have a family member who is, please stop by and fill out a card. This will allow us to pray for you by name in thanksgiving for your service which provides us our freedom today. Together let us pray:Veterans Day Prayer By Deacon Kandra, Brooklyn, NY God of peace, we pray for those who have served our nation and have laid down their lives to protect and defend our freedom.
We pray for those who have fought, whose spirits and bodies are scarred by war, whose nights are haunted by memories too painful for the light of day.
We pray for those who serve us now, especially for those in harm’s way.
Shield them from danger and bring them home.
Turn the hearts and minds of our leaders and our enemies
to the work of justice and a harvest of peace,
Spare the poor, Lord, spare the poor!
May the peace you left us, the peace you gave us, be the peace that sustains,
