Looking ahead to fall
August 13, 2015
Well, here we are, the last half of August, Franny Fest 2015 a great memory and students and their parents focusing on a new academic year. Preparation here at St. Francis Xavier school is nearing completion with staff members returning to their classrooms in the heat of August in an effort to have everything ready for that first day of the 2015-2016 school year. We are so fortunate to have a Catholic School here as it engages the gifts of this community in amazing ways! The parish staff is also fully on board, returning to our offices to continue ministry to all members of our parish. Linda and Shelby are back in their offices planning another year of Faith Formation and actively involved in calling on the gifts of the community to lead and teach our shared faith to the next generation. I hold a fondness in my heart for catechetical ministry for that is how I was called by God (and the FF Coordinator) to begin to minister to His people. Please consider this ministry; you will be blessed by the experience! I am looking forward to beginning regular meetings with BeFrienders, the Faith Community Nurses and the Health and Wellness Committee. And as always, together with the members of these outreach ministries we extend an invitation to anyone who has an interest in joining us. Early in September all members of SFX will receive a mailing with the annual Time & Talent Sign-up sheet. Please take time to consider how you and members of your family can use your talents and interests to help build the Kingdom of God right here in our parish. A truly vibrant parish not only encourages all to be actively engaged within the parish, but supports one another as we grow together in our love and knowledge of Jesus Christ.
With the coming of September, I so look forward to welcoming all who may be interested in learning more about our Catholic faith. It may be for many, that your spouse is Catholic and you have entertained the thought of learning more about how you might become Catholic. Or perhaps you would just like to learn more about what the Catholic Church teaches. The Catholic Church offers R.C.I.A., the “Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults”; a process of exploring, learning and discerning membership in the Church. The Rite begins with
An “Evening of Inquiry” on

St. Francis Xavier Gathering Place
This is an informal meeting where we will share a bit of our own journey of faith and begin a period of inquiry about Church teachings. You or someone you know may simply be interested in this one gathering. However, you or someone you know may have expressed an interest in becoming Catholic and this would be the first of weekly meetings to begin the process of initiation into the Catholic Church. I will write more about this in future columns. At this time I ask all members of our community to give serious thought to who in your life might God be calling you to invite into His Church. Pray about this asking God to provide the right time and place for you to extend an invitation. As Christians we are called to share the Good News of Jesus Christ; inviting another to become Catholic fulfills that call. I invite all who have an interest or questions about the R.C.I.A. process, to call or e-mail me. Please know that I will welcome your call with joy!
