Let us celebrate for on this day of Pentecost we as a people of God receive the wondrous gift the Holy Spirit!
A promise from Jesus:
"If you love me, you will keep my commandments. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, to be with you forever.” John 14.15
We as a Church received the Holy Spirit on the Day of Pentecost; we as Christians received the Holy Spirit on the day of our baptism and by this we are blessed with the promise that the Spirit of Truth will be with us always. We are invited to live in the love of Christ, keeping His commandments and going out to the world to proclaim the Good News: that Christ is risen and our salvation is complete. What better gift could we receive than to know the presence of God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit is with us every moment of our lives?
“I will be with you always, until the end of time.”
When Jesus spoke this to the disciples he had just shared with them that he would not remain in body, but rather in Spirit with them. We can only wonder if they really understood what Jesus was saying and we could ask ourselves the same question; do we truly understand what it means that God, in the presence of the Holy Spirit, is with us always? Let us together, as members of one Body of Christ, challenge ourselves to be mindful of the presence of the Holy Spirit within us. With the Holy Spirit let us be strengthened to show love, tenderness and mercy to family members, co-workers and the stranger. If we cannot physically be the hands and the feet of Christ to others, let us challenge ourselves to love God’s people through caring thought and prayer, that all might come to know the presence of God in their lives. This is indeed a challenge! The strength we need to fulfill that challenge is within us; in the presence of the Holy Spirit.
Thank you Lord Jesus for asking your Father to send an Advocate that we might continue to walk in your way. Let us always be grateful for your presence with us.
