We are deeply grateful to our Military Advocates who prepared care packages for each for Christmas. Our love and prayers are with our deployed and all the families. Be sure to pick up a card at the display in the Gathering Place if you wish to send a message for the New Year

We had a most wonderful turnout of participants for the Saturday, January 21 gathering at St. Francis Xavier on the topics of Aging, Alzheimer’s and Dementia. Carol Thelen, regional director of the Alzheimer’s Association, presented basic information regarding the 10 signs of early detection of Alzheimer’s. Also, we are deeply grateful to Sandy Oltz for her candid and helpful presentation and to Erin and Allie VanKoevering who as youth volunteers spoke of their ministry of friendship and care with memory loss residents at a nursing home. Special thanks to Shelly Teff and Jackie McCann for their coordination, and other members of the St. Francis Health and Wellness for assistance: Deb Paul, Sharon Kalkman and Karen Reinholz. Thanks to Alyssa Reinholz for welcoming and providing hospitality.

Again, we deeply appreciated the many participants who attended and benefitted from this workshop.

For more information on Alzheimer’s or a related dementia, contact Carol Thelen at carol.thelen@alz.org or 320.257.0696 or visit www.alz.org/mnnd.

Pastoral Ministries

There are many Pastoral Ministry opportunities for individuals that would like to reach out and touch the lives of others in need. The time commitment for each of the ministries varies. Please contact Sr. Cordy to learn more about each ministry or to volunteer your time.

Anointing of the Sick

The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick is held during the Advent and Lenten Season.  The Anointing Sacrament  is for persons who are in need of healing in mind, body and spirit.  The Anointing is available to children who have reached the age of reason.   If parishioners are seriously ill and request an anointing at their home or hospital, it can be arranged through the Parish Office, the Pastoral Minister or pastor.

BeFriender Ministry

BeFrienders are trained to be active listeners to persons in need of care and support.  Training required.  The next 20 hour  training will take place on a weekend  in fall of 2012 in the St. Cloud area, along with several other churches. BeFrienders meet once a  month after training as a group and are expected to visit with an assigned person who is in need of support once or twice a month for an hour or less, depending on the circumstances. We are encouraging persons to consider this ministry who can drive a vehicle, have the ability to listen,  are confidential and willing to take the training required.
Newly Commissioned BeFrienders will occur in Spring 2013

Couples, singles and families are welcome for this ministry.
